La multifuncionalidad del mundo rural

En este artículo se describen las bases conceptuales de la multifuncionalidad de la agricultura, y se analiza hasta qué punto pueden servir para justificar la intervención pública en apoyo del sector. A continuación, se destacan algunos aspectos concretos que tienen que ver con la multifuncionalidad en las áreas relacionadas con la biodiversidad, el desarrollo rural y la seguridad alimentaria para, finalmente, contemplar las posibilidades que ofrecen las actuales normas de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC) a la hora de tener en cuenta las denominadas «preocupaciones no comerciales» (non-trade concerns) y, entre ellas, las relacionadas con la multifuncionalidad. ereig@uv.es

The economical and social development in the Center-South of Cordoba, (Argentina) depends on the agriculture. However, due to low production and severe soil erosion, the farms are not longer economically feasible. This situation implies that the agriculture in the region might not be sustainable in the long run. This study assessed the potential production of the natural resources in the Santa Catalina basin, in order to improve their use and management. The estimated potential production is 300 % higher than the actual production. In addition, the basin is severely affected by water erosion.
